The Young Investigator Group Operando Interfacial Photochemistry is looking for:
PhD Student (f/m), Diploma or Master in the field of Physics, Chemistry, Materials Sciences or closely related discipline
Reference No.: EE 2017/50
The young investigator group “Operando Interfacial Photochemistry” uses X-ray spectroscopy to study electronic structures at solid–liquid interfaces, in particular nanoparticle–water interfaces and electrolyte–anode interfaces (e.g. in photoelectrochemical cells). One goal is to understand the chemical and physical processes at the solid-liquid interface on the atomic scale under reaction conditions. Specifically, we use (resonant) photoelectron spectroscopy to study the non-radiative relaxation processes and induced electron- and charge-exchange processes at the interface. We are looking for two PhDs.
1. Topic of the doctoral thesis: X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies of the electronic structure at the electrolyte-anode interface of photoelectrochemical cells
2. Topic of the doctoral thesis: In-operando photoelectron spectroscopy studies of photocatalytic processes relevant for water splitting
The PhD students will be a member of the Graduate School "Materials for Solar Energy Conversion" (MatSEC).
Tasks:
Synthesis and physico-chemical characterization of (photo-)electrocatalysts
Performing (photo-)electrochemical in operando experiments
Writing of beamtime proposals
Active participation in beamtimes at the BESSY synchrotron radiation facility, especially performing photoelectron spectroscopic experiments using the ambient-pressure SOL³PES setup
Writing of scientific publications and presentation of results at (international) scientific conferences and meetings
Requirements:
Completed Diploma or Master degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Sciences or related discipline
Interest in research with synchrotron radiation and electrochemistry and/or photoelectron spectroscopy
Ability to work in a team, reliability and dedication to experimental work
Well organized, result-oriented, committed and precise working
Very good english skills (spoken and written)
What we offer:
Fixed term contract for 36 months . The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
We particularly welcome applications from women. Preference will be given to handicapped applicants provided equal suitability.
How to apply:
Have we sparked your interest? Then we look forward to receiving your application by 12.01.2018.
