Dear list users,
** Apologies for cross posting and also for a few minor errors in my initial post this morning, specifically related to Ana and Aidan’s bio’s. Thanks to Peter Farrell for the feedback. **
I am pleased to share details of a student Masterclass, limited to 40 places specifically for ECR and PGRs. The Masterclass is aligned to the forthcoming conference, The Pictures of War: Still image in Conflict Since 1945, to be held at Manchester Metropolitan University 23-25th May 2018. The CfP is now closed but information related to the conference, masterclass and registration can be found here: http://www.art.mmu.ac.uk/events/2018/the-pictures-of-war/
For those wishing to participate in the Masterclass, there are a number of subsidised places for ECR/PGRs only, which includes full conference attendance and travel bursaries. Please read the details below (and in the link above) and email me with a rationale before the 26th March [log in to unmask] Places will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis upon receipt of your application. All successful applications will be informed of their places week commencing 2nd April 2018.
Details:
23 May 2018 10:30 – 4:00 pm (registration begins at 10 am)
Manchester Metropolitan University, Floor 1, Righton Building
Thematically framed by the broad aims of the main conference the Masterclass aims to provide a supportive environment for students to engage in critical, reflexive thinking and to develop their methodological approaches to visual material. With a focus on interdisciplinarity, the event seeks to foreground how applied visual methods and the discussion of, can help to enhance, produce or support ongoing research in the humanities regionally, nationally and potentially internationally. Led by a team of experts in their respective fields, the day will commence with a panel session discussing the varied methods and approaches related to the analysis of conflict related imagery, their production, circulation, consumption and effect.
Presentations by:
Prof Ana Carden-Coyne. Director of the Centre for the Cultural History of War (CCHW) in the School of Arts, Histories and Cultures, University of Manchester.
Dr Aidan McGarry. Principal Lecturer in Politics and Subject Leader for the School of Applied Social Science, University of Brighton.
Dr Simon Faulkner. Senior Lecturer and the Programme Leader for Art History, Manchester School of Art.
Prof Farida Vis. Director of the Visual Social Media Lab and Professor/Head of the Manchester International Screen School.
Best,
Gary
