The 6th Academic and Research Libraries Group South West (ARLG SW) Discover Academic Research Training and Support (DARTS) is to be held once again in the beautiful Dartington Hall, Totnes, Devon on Thursday 24th to Friday 25th May 2018. Aimed at Library and Information Professionals supporting research, the main theme for the conference is ‘Back to Basics’.
The conference runs from Thursday lunchtime (with registration and refreshments available from 1030) to 1600 on Friday. The price includes overnight accommodation at Dartington Hall, refreshments, lunch on both days, breakfast on Friday and a Conference dinner on Thursday evening in the Great Hall.
We already have an exciting range of speakers and topics lined up:
• Kara Jones (University of Bath) Library services have evolved to meet the demands of technology, changes in learning activities and research methods and delivery of information and knowledge. Library staffing structures and expertise have developed to meet the needs of our users. Knowing this, how can we anticipate future changes and what might be some of the drivers influencing this change.
• Mandy Smith (Cranfield University) Mapping the information needs of research students.
• Catherine Parker (University of Huddersfield) The Game of Open Access.
• Jane Secker (City, University of London) and Chris Morrison (University of Kent) ‘The Publishing Trap’ and copyright literacy research.
• Cuna Ekmekcioglu (University of Edinburgh) Academic research and training support.
• Katherine Stephan (Liverpool John Moores University) Creating your own opportunities to work across the university with different research departments and how to develop partnerships with the research office/graduate school.
• Lisa Clughen (Nottingham Trent University) Building the skills of librarians to support authors when writing.
There is also an opportunity to present a topic of interest through the PechaKucha session on Thursday, as well as lots of time for networking and interaction with likeminded professionals.
