Apologies for the cross-posting of this message but I think that the conference themes are extremely relevant to eResources management! Please do consider sharing your metadata experiences, workflows or ideas for improvements. 

Proposals are invited for the CILIP Cataloguing and Indexing Group (CIG) biennial conference “Metadata: Create, Share and Enrich” to be held from 5-7 September 2018 at the John McIntyre Conference Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Conference theme
This year’s conference aims to showcase the continued need for quality metadata in a data dominated world and those who create, share, enrich and use it.  We encourage submissions from information professionals, data suppliers, data researchers, standards and system developers on this theme and active audience participation.

Conference schedule
The main conference will take place over the first two full days.  We are pleased to announce that, on the third day of the conference, we will be hosting the CILIP/BL Committee on RDA’s inaugural RDA event which will include presentations on the LRM and the re-designed RDA Toolkit.

Conference topics
CIG welcomes proposals that cover, but are not confined to, the following areas:

•    Cataloguing/classification/indexing by material type
•    Standards: creation and adoption
•    Controlled vocabularies
•    Authority control
•    Ethics
•    Data management
•    Library and Collection Management systems
•    Discovery systems and interfaces
•    Linked data
•    Search engine visibility
•    Digitization
•    Repositories
•    Knowledge bases
•    Education and careers

Proposals closely reflecting the main conference theme will be especially valued.

Formats
We welcome proposals, in English, in the following formats:

•    Conference papers (20-30 mins). An opportunity to present how your work, project or research innovates discovery.
•    Lightning talk (7 mins). Shorter presentations on the above topics and themes. Please consider this if you have something to share but do not have a full conference paper.
•    Interactive sessions (up to 30 mins). With the venue offering breakout rooms, we particularly encourage presentations with interactive elements.
•    Panel discussions (30 mins). Panels comprised of 2-3 representatives from different institutions commenting on an agreed topic or challenge.
•    One minute ‘cataloguing conundrum’ presentations (1 min). An opportunity to show a cataloguing example of a baffling or unusual item in one slide. Selected items will be discussed as part of a masterclass session.
•    Posters. An opportunity to present your work/project/research in visual form. Time will be included during the conference to allow poster presenters to engage directly with delegates and discuss the contents of their poster. Please consider this if you would prefer to present in a less formal way.

Submissions
We hope to hear from professionals in every library sector and also encourage submissions from current and recently graduated LIS students who would like to take this opportunity to present their research to the cataloguing community.

Cataloguers, indexers and other metadata specialists have a significant role to play in the future of information services and it’s something worth shouting about. Whether you are an experienced presenter or hoping to share your thoughts for the first time in front of a welcoming audience we hope you will consider submitting a proposal.

Submissions deadline
Submissions should be made by 2 March 2018 in an attached document via email to [log in to unmask] and should include:

•    Title of proposed presentation
•    Presenter(s) name, position and affiliation (if any), email address and biographical note (50 words max)
•    Presentation format
•    Presentation topics
•    Presentation abstract (500 words max)

Proposals will be reviewed by the conference planning committee and selection will be made based on their content, relevance and overall fit with the conference aims.  In some cases it may be necessary to make amendments in order to meet programme requirements.

Presenters will be notified of their success by email on 30 March 2018 at which point further detailed instructions on conference registration, travel, accommodation and publication will be shared.  If you have any initial questions you are of course welcome to get in touch!
