The visit will include a tour of the library itself. A presentation about the services the Law Society Library provides, including research, collection management (we have 55,000 volumes dating back to the 16th century), and management of the Law Society’s Corporate Archive collection which is a unique collection of documents and ephemera items charting the legal history of England and Wales.
The visit will also include access to a display of some of the Corporate Archive itself, including a 16th century map of London showing, amongst other items, the old London Wall itself and bull bating pits; an 18th century letter from an attorney sold into slavery, Oflag 79 - a prisoner of war camp where prisoners set up a camp Law Society to educate would-be prisoners wanting to train as solicitors; and much more.
The charge will be £10 per member, inclusive of VAT.
