Dear all,
A brief reminder that the deadline for abstracts is fast approaching for the RFG2018 conference in Vancouver, Canada (16-21st June 2018).
Abstract deadline: 15th January
Early bird registration deadline: 15th April
I'd especially like to highlight a session on the use of Applied Mineralogy in the Mining Industry supported by the Applied Mineralogy Group of the Mineralogical Society (http://rfg2018.gibsongroup.ca/sessions.php?subtheme_id=44).
MIN54 Applied mineralogy in the mining industry – integration, applications and future development
Katie McFall (Cardiff University), Eimear Deady (BGS) and Hannah Hughes (CSM)
Large-scale easy to mine deposits are mostly discovered and we’re increasingly looking towards complex ore bodies as targets for exploration. The integration of applied mineralogy techniques with traditional metallurgy and ore deposit geology is key to the future of the mining industry.
Understanding increasingly complex ore and reprocessing tailings and waste is essential, particularly as the ‘E-tech’ metals needed for green technology often occur as potential by-products, such as Te and Se from copper production, Ga from bauxite and In from zinc production.
The innovative use of applied mineralogy will have significant implications for future development of sustainable mineral deposits and efficient extraction of metals.
We particularly welcome abstracts on:
· Innovations in applied mineralogy
· Complex ore types and exploiting by-products
· The use of applied mineralogy to aid the development of processing methods
· The application of applied mineralogy to waste and tailings
· The mineralogy and occurrence of ‘E-tech’ elements (Te, Se, Co, In, Ga, Li) in ore deposits
PhD students and early career researchers are particularly encouraged to submit research in progress abstracts. The closing date for abstracts is 15th January, 2018.
If you need any further information and/or have questions please get in touch with me or Katie or Hannah.
Cheers,
Eimear
