Tempest has sold 67,465 titles including her debut novel, The Bricks That Built the Houses(Bloomsbury) accruing £626,627."
I was in that intellectual meltdown yesterday, The British Library bookshop, they actually had the 'Old Straight Track' under Natural History you know, and McNish and Tempest take a sizeable chunk of the skimpy poetry section, while even at an independent bookshop nearby on Caledonian Rd, despite there being evidence of intelligent life, they both too munched up big bites of the poetry shelves. I think the marketing that lies behind them will ensure that this situation is repeated around the country in the closet privy space accorded the Cinderella of the Arts.
