Betreff: Northern English Bog Seed ID
Dear List Members,
I was wondering if you might be able to assist me with identifying these seeds which were recovered from a waterlogged palaeosol within a kettle-hole in Northern England. We believe the palaeosol to represent a bog deposit potentially be from the Windermere Interstadial.
They are a little over 1mm diameter (the squares in the background are 1mm). From the photo they might appear to be translucent, however they are quite opaque in reality. I've had it suggested that they may in fact be etymological rather than botanical but I've opened one up and there was a seed embryo within rather than an insect.
I wonder if anyone had any suggestions? I'm quite stumped and we have a fair few of these little guys!
Many thanks,
Luke
