Dear all,
Thank you for your recommendations and suggestions for relevant persons to talk to regarding theoretical approaches to empathy in anthropological texts and research. It has really been a wonderfully and bewilderingly helpful 24 hours. I'm glad to discover that there is a growing attention on the emotion work/affective labour on the level of everyday lives, particularly in encounters between different types of actors in globalised and touristic spaces. I have yet to uncover particular analytical traditions are employed here, or what range of analytical traditions (from 'stance' in sociolinguistics, to sensory biographies), which is a really interesting question. If anyone is working on this, or is wanting to pursue this further, I am all up for it.
So far I've noted several key authors and made contact with people who have similar research interests as I have.
Jason Throop
Douglas Hollan
Thomas Stodulka
Anita von Poser
Hochschild's the Managed Heart
Valerio Simoni
and many more...
So thank you all again,
and have a wonderful start to the new year, let's hope it's a good one.
Sincerely,
Martin Loeng
