Senior Statistician
Salary: £40,885– £46,016pa + benefits; placement is on scale according to qualifications and experience. Based out of Slough, York or Swansea.
NFER is an independent research organisation which undertakes projects in all sectors of education. We are committed to the continuing improvement of education and training for all children, young people and to providing support for policy makers and practitioners.
The Centre for Statistics is looking for a Senior Statistician who can help maintain, and develop, the Centre’s impact both internally and externally.
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic statistician, who is keen to further develop their statistical knowledge within an organisation at the centre of educational research in the UK. We are interested in applications from individuals who are capable of carrying out high quality complex statistical analyses, as part of different research teams across the NFER, and who can be involved in a number of statistical and strategic areas. In addition to a large variety of evaluation work, the successful candidate would also be involved with an exciting portfolio of test development projects and have access to an internal research fund. They would report directly to the Head of Statistics.
Some of the essential qualities required:
• Be well qualified in statistics or economics, and will have a degree with a very high statistical content
• Will preferably have a higher degree
• Proven relevant work experience
• Be knowledgeable of survey research, including sampling methodology, weighting strategies, the use of multi variate analysis techniques and the analysis of hierarchical data
• Be an experienced user of statistical software, particularly SPSS but including other statistical packages such as R, STATA, MPlus and MLwiN
• Can lead projects and other statisticians within project teams
• Is able to lead on the development of training and induction packages for statisticians and quantitative researchers
• Be able to communicate effectively, both with researchers and with other statisticians
• An ability to draft statistical components of proposals and contribute to income generation activities
• An ability to communicate analysis findings to a variety of audiences
