The overarching mission of the Centre for Public Health (CPH) is to:
Advance the health of the public at a regional, national and international level, by increasing knowledge and influencing clinical and public health practice and policy.
CPH staff aim to identify the epidemiological and genetic risk factors that are important for the health of the individual and of the population, and to develop screening and interventions to reduce the burden of chronic disease in the future.
To achieve this, the Centre is developing high quality research programmes involving close collaboration between clinical experts and scientists with skills in biochemistry, epidemiology, genetics and statistics. There is a strong emphasis on maintaining international research collaborations, facilitated through formal links with a number of other institutions. In addition, the Centre actively participates in research networks throughout the UK and Europe.
