The research profile of the chair and the Sociolinguistic Lab includes the investigation of variation through combining theoretical and empirical studies. Relevant structural phenomena from formal key areas are studied via empirical data and quantitative methods, and useful empirical methods (e.g. corpus linguistics, annotation structure, data collection and analysis) are refined.
TASKS
- conduct independent research within the chair's field of research; at least one Romance language has to be the object of study
- aim to publish findings
- participate in day-to-day business of the chair including work on grant proposals, workshops, exams and literature review etc.
- teach one class per semester in modern linguistics (bachelor level) with Romance languages as main focus (includ. either French or Spanish) and covering formal key areas
REQUIRED PROFILE
- M.A. in linguistics or philology with emphasis in linguistics
- rounded training in formal linguistics
- proficient and documented language skills in at least one Romance language and expertise of linguistic phenomena in more than one Romance language
- knowledge of German; candidates without prior knowledge must be willing to gain a good command of the language within the first six months
- good communication skills & works well in a team to coordinate day-to-day-business in collaboration with the head of the chair
- knowledge of language variation and change as well as of empirical methods is a plus
- on-site presence at the University of Cologne upon recruitment
WE OFFER
The position is available from April 1st 2018 on a 50% basis. It is limited to 31.03.2020, with the possibility of another two-year extension.
If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is based on remuneration group 13 TV- L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
