Focus:
The guest editor of the journal is seeking manuscripts for a September 2018 special issue on health inequalities for migrants and how migration factors can impact access to health care.
About the Journal
International Journal of Human Rights in Healthcare (IJHRH) is a double-blind peer reviewed journal with a unique practical approach to promoting equality, inclusion and human rights in health and social care. The journal explores what is currently known about international discrimination and disadvantage, with a focus on issues influencing the health of populations. Content considers the social determinants of health, equity and interventions that help to overcome barriers and that promote equality and inclusion.
Call for papers
Today, with 1 billion migrants globally, migrant health and equity to healthcare, is more important than ever. In this special issue, migrants are defined as all individuals born outside their country of residence and therefore encompasses a diversity of migrants, including asylum seekers, refugees as well as documented and undocumented economic migrants, and ranges from individuals who have recently settled in their country of residence, to those who have been resident for many years. Migration has become a social determinant of health and migrants may face barriers in accessing appropriate levels of health care, which may be detrimental to public health. For example, barriers for migrant workers to accessing health care have been found to include economic and language barriers, incompatibility with work schedules and fear of losing employment or deportation.
This special issue in the International Journal of Human Rights in Healthcare offers an opportunity to contribute to understanding the impact of migration factors, interacting with ethnicity and socio-demographic factors, on the health outcomes, needs and barriers to the healthcare of migrants. We are seeking empirical research articles, case studies, viewpoint articles, review or literature review articles and conceptual articles covering (but not limited to) the following topics:
* Global equitable access to healthcare for migrants.
* Health outcomes, needs and challenges for migrants in relation to healthcare.
* The role of healthcare providers and cultural competence of healthcare providers in the care of migrants.
* Barriers and facilitators to migrants in accessing healthcare.
* Mental Health- prevention, treatment and care for migrant populations.
* Non-communicable diseases-prevention, treatment and care for migrant populations.
* Communicable diseases-prevention, treatment and care for migrant populations.
* Incorporation of technology in cross-cultural healthcare.
* Health care policies addressing inequalities, ethical issues, social justice and human rights for migrants.
