Dear peers,
In celebration of the 50th anniversary, the College for Creative
Studies (CCS), located in Detroit, is in the process of replicating a
full-scale version of Gordon Pask’s COLLOQUY OF MOBILES, one of the
first veritable interactive new media art installations that I know
of. Maybe the project could be put in parallel with one coordinated by
my friend Natalia Fuchs, curator of the Polytech.Science.Art, in
Moscow, a replication of light organ created by the Russian artist
Bulat Galeev in the sixties.

Maybe people from the new media art world could think the object is somewhat
kitsch (or even camp), but I think, after Timothy Morton, kitsch can
be immersive on certain occasions. Moreover, Pask's piece, originally
created for the ground-breaking exhibit CYBERNETIC SERENDIPITY at the
Institute for Contemporary Art in London in 1968, provide an human
environment that contains conversational machines, a vision that
extends far beyond his own time and place.
At the the present time, Paul Pangaro, the mastermind of the project,
is looking for cooperative partnerships. We want to promote it widely;
mitigate risk; and to add activities such as thorough documentation
and sharing outcomes with other schools and organizations via symposia
in other locations in the Fall of this year.

We are completely open to discuss strategies and possibilities.
