Folks,
(Not being in the University)
I don’t see any reason to rejoice when such kind of criticism comes from people who are and have been for so long within the system, benefiting for years of high positions, high salaries, international travels and all the other attributes of authority !
And who are in the position to shape the faculty : programs, selection process, content, forms of teaching etc.!
Such words are akin to biting the hand that feeds you ! It sounds like these speakers who fly across oceans for a twenty minutes presentation and and say « anyway, the others don’t, so why should I care about the climate ? ».
What did you do to avoid this negative change ? To promote and stand for a better form of education, if you believe it should be different ?
What have been the benefits to teachers of having cohorts of students that are not challenging you at the intellectual but at the administrative levels ?
I am not against changing (higher) education, but I want the change to serve a responsible vision, informed by history and tradition.
I think it is a not so constructive message to the younger generation of scholars.
Unless I completely misunderstood some Sunday evening humor ?
Jean
