Dear all,
I hope that members might be interested in a project that I have put together with my colleague Dr Mike Bintley at Canterbury Christ Church University. We have constructed an interactive walking tour uncovering the hidden post-apocalyptic landscapes of Canterbury through the narratives of Russell Hoban’s Riddley Walker, set in a Kent of the future following nuclear devastation, and the Anglo-Saxon Andreas, set in the ruins of a city peopled by devil-worshipping cannibals. The project uses walking and psychogeographical approaches to access the imagined landscapes of the texts.
The project is funded by the Being Human festival and launches this Friday, 17th November. There will be a launch with short talks, followed by the inaugural walk, with further walks on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th.
Places are free: please book via the Being Human website https://beinghumanfestival.org/event/o-what-we-ben-discovering-post-apocalyptic-landscapes-1/
A printed map has been produced for self-guided walks - you can download this, look at the locations and listen to readings from the texts via our project blog: https://blogs.canterbury.ac.uk/owhatweben/
Mike and I have been interviewed about the project by Matthew Sweet for Radio 3's Free Thinking, which will air on Thursday 16th.
Best wishes
Sonia
