OK
Found it
I read the exchange about my own work first -- apologies.
No. Yabbies have not made my headlines.
I don't think I have encountered crayfish in 25 years -- and then in
central Sweden as some kind of trad event -- my hosts had even photocopied
the Swedish words to trad devouring crayfish songs because I wouldnt know
them...
These were, I believe, Indian crayfish because the Swedish ones were fished
and eaten to something like extinction
So I am left with the reference to octopuses...
There was a very good programme on those in the BBC radio 4 "natural
histories" series a few weeks back
And of course I'm thinking of the octopus as weird and threatening rather
than intelligent. Else the poem doesn't really work.
If it does....
