Vacancy: Researcher in Systems & Data Management/Security/Privacy
Dept. Computer Science & Technology (Computer Laboratory)
University of Cambridge
We have a vacancy for a researcher to look at issues of transparency,
audit and control in emerging systems. Work will involve investigating
means for exposing, explaining and controlling the nature of systems,
their operations and the corresponding data flows. The focus will be on
data sharing, systems composition, and automation in general;
particularly as regards the IoT/pervasive computing.
The role suits candidates with a background in systems/data management,
for instance in areas such as security, privacy, trust, access
control/policy, provenance/audit, ideally in a distributed/network/cloud
systems context. Some familiarity with machine learning is a bonus (but
not required). The work entails a practical and experimental approach,
meaning strong systems programming/engineering skills are required.
This position will be part of a new, interdisciplinary team being
established to explore the tech-legal challenges of emerging technology,
particularly around compliance and accountability. Therefore an interest
in the legal and/or social implications of technology is highly
desirable.
Candidates should hold or be close to holding a PhD, or have equivalent
experience.
Note a senior appointment is possible for those suitably qualified.
