There is an ultrafast laser scientist opening at the UK’s Central Laser Facility.
The Central Laser Facility (CLF) at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory is a world-class research group with over 100 technical and scientific staff, providing advanced research facilities for UK and international scientists. The CLF has two ultrafast science groups, Artemis and Ultra, who are jointly developing a new high repetition rate ultrafast pump-probe facility. Artemis focuses on ultrafast laser and extreme ultraviolet (XUV) science, using XUV pulses produced through high harmonic generation, for experiments in physical sciences. Ultra generates mid-infrared pulses for ultrafast vibrational Infrared and Raman spectroscopy, with applications in chemistry and life sciences.
The CLF is now seeking an individual with a background in ultrafast lasers to develop and commission the new ultrafast facility. The new laser system is a 100 kHz Yb:YAG OPCPA system, producing picosecond and CEP-stable femtosecond pulses in the infrared (1700 nm and 3300 nm). A key part of your role will be to design and build OPA stages to provide pulses from the UV to the mid-infrared (4-12 µm) to enable pump-probe experiments.
