Hi
From a very icy Devon today
1. Do you keep a copy/copies of Essential titles in a short loan collection, or with a defined short loan period?
Yes - it’s a separate set of shelves but is as small as we can make it. We would always buy an e-copy first before putting anything here if possible.
2. What is the collection called/what is the loan period?
High Demand - 2 days : http://as.exeter.ac.uk/library/usingthelibrary/highdemand/
3. How is the usage? (Anecdotal will do, no spreadsheets of stats, thanks!)
Low
4. What do students know about this collection policy?
That there are fines at 50p per day and they don’t want to borrow that copy really.
5. What do tutors know about this collection policy?
That it exists and they think it will cure all ills sometimes. But we discourage items going in there as much as possible.
Hope this helps

Morning all;
How's life in reading list land? Here at Sussex it's bright and shiny, with frosty edges. And that's just me (LOL).
So Monday's question is about your 'Essential' items.
1. Do you keep a copy/copies of Essential titles in a short loan collection, or with a defined short loan period?
2. What is the collection called/what is the loan period?
3. How is the usage? (Anecdotal will do, no spreadsheets of stats, thanks!)
4. What do students know about this collection policy?
5. What do tutors know about this collection policy?
Any and all answers/info gratefully received.
The brightest amongst you will realise we're reviewing our Core Collection this year, and this is inextricably linked to reading lists. I'd really appreciate hearing back from the community as I'm sure there'll be creative but comparable situations out there.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Rachel.
