Specialist Instructional Officer (SIO) – GIS

SIO GIS is responsible to Burnham Lecturer GIS (Applied) for:
a. Delivering instruction on MSc, BSc, FDSc and Defence courses.
b. Ensuring the provision of GIS and related technical and educational material for student learning.
c. Participation in RSMS quality assurance and implement any recorded actions in consultation with BL GIS (Applied).
d. Maintaining technical proficiency and currency.
e. The development and issue of appropriate assessment tasks for GIS related topics.
f. Maintaining professional links with appropriate institutions, academic and/or military organisations and industry.
g. Support and supervise student research projects as appropriate.
SIO GIS is to perform the following tasks:
a. Prepare and mark coursework, assessments and examinations.
b. Advise and where appropriate provide input to student reports, as required.
c. Prepare, review, maintain and revise appropriate learning resources and documentation.
d. Technical and administrative support work in connection with the efficient delivery of modules and courses.
Person specification
Desirable: A minimum of five years working experience with geospatial products.
Desirable: A recognised professional teaching qualification that equates to at least Level 5 on the NQF.
Teaching experience is desirable but not essential. The successful applicant should be prepared to undertake further training in teaching, learning and assessment.
Qualifications
Essential: An HND or equivalent qualification in GIS or a related subject
