*PhD Studentships in Germanic Studies at the University of Sheffield*
Germanic Studies at the University of Sheffield, which comprises German,
Dutch, and Luxembourg Studies, is delighted to announce a range of
studentships for autumn 2018 entry.
We especially welcome applications from suitably qualified applicants in
the following areas:
-- German literature 18th-21st c. (especially literature of the
Goethezeit and the Kaiserreich and Weimar eras);
-- cultural theory and cultural history (e.g., the relation between
Alltagskultur and literature; "characters" of culture, such as the pedant);
-- comparative literature and literary theory
-- the European (esp French and German) history of ideas
-- German social thought
-- satire, irony, and cliche in contemporary culture
-- Germanic (socio-)linguistics, incl issues of multilingualism
-- Dutch Studies
-- Luxembourg Studies
The deadline for all scholarship applications is 5pm on 24th January
2018. Candidates must first have secured a place on the PhD programme
and are advised to apply well in advance of the funding deadline and by

Studentship opportunities:
1) The White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities (WRoCAH) is a
Doctoral Training Partnership of the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield
and York. It is responsible for the distribution of AHRC-funded doctoral
studentships for these universities and for the coordination of a
doctoral training programme. WRoCAH is able to offer over 50 AHRC
studentships per year to candidates with a place for doctoral study at
the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield or York.
Applicants for an AHRC studentship must have applied for a place of
study in an eligible School, Department or Centre and may only apply for
funding at one of Leeds, Sheffield or York. The studentship application
