PhD Studentships in German at the University of Glasgow for entry in 2018
The School of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Glasgow is pleased to invite applications for PhD studentships, through its involvement in the AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership Scotland.
We welcome particularly research proposals that relate to our research strengths in the following areas:
Paul Bishop:
Business and commercial applications of modern languages
Intercultural approaches to business and commerce
Intellectual history (esp. Nietzsche, Jung, Klages, psychoanlaysis, analytical psychology)
European political thought
Austrian and German television, radio, social media
Barbara Burns:
Any aspect of German literature between 1848 and 1900
Sheila Dickson:
Medical Humanities, in particular European medical and literary case histories from 18th and 20th century
Literature of the Romantic period, in particular the works of Archim von Arnim and E.T.A. Hoffmann
Narrative theory, in particular psychoanalytic approaches to literature
Ernest Schonfield:
Literature of the Vormärz (Heine, Büchner)
Modern German Novels (Thomas Mann, Ingeborg Bachmann)
Women writers and minority writers (Özdamar, Hoppe, Tergit)

In addition, the College of Arts will offer a number of scholarships for PhD study in 2018. These scholarships are open to UK/EU and International applicants.

The deadline for submitting all scholarship applications is Thursday, 15 December 2016. To be considered for an award, candidates must have applied to study at the University of Glasgow and have provided two academic references through the university's application system.
