Dear all,
the RAS has just sent out a reminder for this, so I am re-sending
my original email. The deadline for nominations for the
Chair of the Earth and Environment Sub-Panel has passed
but names of ordinary members are still being sought.
Regards,
Sheila Peacock,
BGA Committee.

Dear all,
Both the BGA's parent society, the Royal Astronomical Society and
the Geological Society, are seeking names to put forward for the
subject sub-panels for the REF in 2021. Both are able to nominate
geophysicists, but we are the ones who have to come up with names.
Please contact Robert Massey ([log in to unmask]) at the RAS or Nic
Bilham ([log in to unmask]) if you are interested. The GeolSoc
particularly highlights the search for a chair for the Earth and Environmental
Science sub-panel, for which the deadline is 3rd November i.e.
this Friday (it has been extended from 11th October).

Subject: Invitation to nominate panel members for the Research Excellence Framework 2021

Dear Colleagues,
Further to our email last month, the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the Scottish Funding Council, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, and the Department for the Economy, Northern Ireland are now seeking nominations for membership of the subject sub-panels for the Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF 2021) assessment exercise. The sub-panels of particular interest to the RAS are B7 (Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences), B9 (Physics), and B10 (Mathematical Sciences). Full details of this are set out on the REF 2021 website at http://www.ref.ac.uk/ <http://www.ref.ac.uk/>
The RAS is a nominating body, and we expect to work with the Institute of Physics and others to endorse nominees for the various sub-panels. /We would very much like to see a good representation for our sciences, which should also reflect wider considerations of geographic and demographic diversity/.
Can I ask you to consider whether you, or a colleague, would like to serve on a sub-panel, and to circulate this email to those who might be interested? Potential nominees should send their details to me via the email address below, and I will pass them to a subcommittee of RAS Council who will consider them further. In order to give the Society enough time to assemble its list, can I also ask you to return nominations by *Wednesday 29 November*?
As ever, I would like to thank you for your continued support for the RAS and its aims.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Robert Massey
