I have been researching Karl Mayer-Eymar and the origin of the Stage name Bartonian.
This is in connection with a proposed event to be held in Barton-on-Sea, at a date to be agreed, to demonstrate its role and that of Mayer-Eymar in, and their contribution to, the development of the sciences of geology and palaeontology of which the community is largely unaware.
My research has discovered that Barton fossils are to be found in many museums both local and international and I would like to include an appendix to my paper listing museums that have Barton fossils in their collection. I think that this would demonstrate their importance by how widely they are distributed around the world. It might also provide data for other research.
If you have fossils with Barton-on-Sea provenance in your collection, or know of such collections then I would like to hear from you.
I would like to know:-
1) Museum name
2) Approx no. of fossils from Barton-on-Sea
3) Names (preferably English) of the range of fossils.
4) Collector(s) if known.
5) Details of any large, impressive, unique or otherwise important fossils.
I am an interested resident, not a geologist, and would welcome any expert assistance or advice. If you feel you may be able to offer help then please contact me for further information.
I look forward to hearing from you.
