Hi Eliza,
There are restrictions for raw amber in a few countries such as Australia where the amber with inclusions is not for export, but worked amber for jewellery is not a problem. Raw amber should also not be exported from the Dominican Republic prohibited by Law #65 of 1967, Decree #747 of 1979 and Decree #288-87. Export of raw amber is also illegal from Russia. I presume you will be wanting worked amber anyway for the public engagement, so should not be a problem.

Subject: Insects in amber
The Oxford University Museum of Natural History is interested in buying some insects in amber to be used in public engagement. There are some nice specimens of Dominican and Baltic amber for sale but I know there are restrictions on the extraction and export of some of this material, particularly Baltic amber, and we want to be sure that any specimens we do buy have been acquired legally. If anyone has experience in this area and could advise us we would be very pleased to hear from them.
With thanks and best wishes,
Eliza Howlett
