Archives Revealed Cataloguing Grants Assessment Panel:
Open Call for Panel Members 2017

The National Archives and the Pilgrim Trust would like to invite archive practitioners to apply to join the assessment panel for the cataloguing grants funding strand of the new Archives Revealed programme. Archives Revealed will transform access to archives for a wide range of users enabling more people to engage with archives and the UKs rich documentary heritage. For more information about the programme please see our website: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/finding-funding/archives-revealed/

Archives Revealed Cataloguing Grants awards up to £40,000 to create catalogues of archival collections. Successful applications will highlight the significance of the archives and demonstrate the clear need for cataloguing to take place, alongside outcomes that have the potential to transform archive services, vastly improve access and increase public engagement with history.

We are currently seeking to recruit members to join the assessment panel for the cataloguing grants funding strand.

About the Assessment Panel
Archives Revealed Cataloguing Grants has a two phase application process with panel assessments at each phase. The panel consists of 8 members including representatives from The National Archives and the Pilgrim Trust.

- At phase one, assessment will focus on demonstrating clear local, regional or international significance alongside a high level of potential to engage people with archives and heritage, and a demonstration of need for the cataloguing to take place.

- At phase two, assessment will focus on project planning, reliability, the likelihood that the applicant can successfully deliver the project, and the potential impact of the project on the archives' audiences.
At each phase of the application process panel members will assess applications against set criteria and allocate appropriate scores. The panel will then meet to discuss the assessment outcomes and decide on successful applicants. To read the Application Panel terms of reference please see the assessment process page of our website: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/finding-funding/archives-revealed/cataloguing-grants/assessment-process/

What are Archives Revealed looking for?

Archives Revealed are looking for panel members from across the UK and from a variety of archive types or areas of expertise. Panel members should have:

· Knowledge and experience of archives

· Knowledge of the wider heritage sector

· Understanding of issues relating to cataloguing, collections management, and access

· Skills in strategic and analytical thinking

· Strong communication skills
In addition we would welcome applications from those with skills, knowledge or experience in one or more of the following:

· Digital archives and born digital collections

· Medieval archives

· Modern archives

· Audience development and public engagement activities

· Conservation and preservation of archive collections
We would particularly encourage applications from new professionals and those early in their careers in the sector. We welcome applications from people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, disabled people and younger individuals.

Panel members would need to be able to attend one workshop about the programme (on the 22nd January 2018 in Birmingham), read applications and score applicants in advance of meetings, and attend two panel meetings per annum.

In order to stagger the future recruitment process and enable flexibility, we are looking to retain panel members for 1, 2 and 3 year periods. You will have the opportunity to discuss this during the application process.

How to apply?
If you are interested in making an application to be a member of the Archives Revealed Assessment Panel, then please email us with the following:

· Your name, address and contact details

· Regional or national focus - whether you have special knowledge or experience in a particular region in the UK

· The type of archive you have experience or knowledge of working in, or any subject specialisms or expertise that would be of interest

· A statement highlighting what you consider to be important when assessing applications for cataloguing, and indicating what qualities you might bring to the panel
The application deadline is 30th November 2017.
Interviews (in person and by telephone) will be conducted in early December 2017.

Any questions - do get in touch.
