Cheshire Archives and Local Studies is a shared service of Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester councils. The service identifies, collects and cares for archives and publications that are the evidence of Cheshire communities’ lives past and present. We deliver access for all to our collections for information, learning and enjoyment and work to make sure archives survive so that future generations will be able to do the same.
We are looking for a qualified archivist to undertake the Manorial Document Register (MDR) Project for Cheshire. The project, which forms part of the national MDR Project, is funded by The National Archives and delivered with Cheshire Archives and Local Studies.
The archivist will check and revise the existing MDR for Cheshire creating online records; research authority files of Cheshire manors; locate and catalogue manorial records not previously included as well as managing volunteers assisting with the project. They will also develop and participate in delivering related promotional activities.
We are looking for someone with knowledge of manorial courts and the documents they produced, medieval and post-medieval palaeography and medieval Latin.
Based at the Cheshire Record Office in Chester the job will also involve some travel to London and other repositories throughout the country.
