Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships 2018 - School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography, University of Oxford
The School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography at the University of Oxford wishes to invite expressions of interest for the 2018 Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships call<https://www.leverhulme.ac.uk/funding/grant-schemes/early-career-fellowships/eligibility>. These Fellowships provide 50% match-funding for a three-year academic research position to enable early career researchers to undertake a significant piece of publishable work. Applicants must have a track record of research, but should not have held an established academic appointment in the UK. In particular, potential candidates are advised to note that the Leverhulme Trust's Research Awards Advisory Committee believes 'that the development of an academic career is best served by gaining experience at different institutions. Applicants who have not already moved institutions in the course of their academic career should nominate a new host institution, or otherwise demonstrate clear evidence of the academic and/or personal reasons for remaining at the same institution.'
Due to the requirement for matched funding, the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography (SAME) at Oxford will be able to support a maximum of two applications to this scheme, and we are therefore running a departmental selection exercise in advance of the Leverhulme Trust application deadline. All expressions of interest must demonstrate the support of an academic mentor from the staffing body at SAME<https://www.anthro.ox.ac.uk/people/academic-staff>.
Candidates wishing to apply to the department's gathered field must first ensure that they meet the Leverhulme Trust eligibility requirements for this scheme (detailed here<https://www.leverhulme.ac.uk/funding/grant-schemes/early-career-fellowships/eligibility>). They must then submit the following to the Research Development Officer<mailto:[log in to unmask]>, Dr Jessica Williams, by noon on Monday 8 January 2018:
• A draft research proposal for the Fellowship project (maximum 2 pages, 12 point, 1.5 spaced)
• A CV detailing the applicant's research track record (maximum 2 pages)
• A statement of support from the proposed SAME mentor (maximum 1 page)
Expressions of interest will be considered for departmental support by the Head of Department and Research Director, and two successful candidates will be selected to make applications to the Leverhulme Trust, with support from the departmental Research Development Officer. Each expression of interest will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
ž Potential for research excellence
ž Viability and quality of project in conceptual and practical terms
ž Closeness of fit with departmental research priorities and benefits to department of hosting project/Fellow
ž Significance of project, and potential to lead to permanent academic employment for Fellow
If you have any queries about this process, or about the department, please contact the Research Development Officer<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
Kind regards,
Jessica
