Subject: [WS] Language
Dear Sir,
Why is it so often assumed that native English speaking children are less capable of learning a language than others ? It clearly does not affect native Welsh speaking children - one need only look at figures like Alex Jones, Ioan Griffith and the late Rhodri Morgan, all of whom come from that background and were evidently not held back by it. Or is it only the Welsh language that has this damaging effect ? After all, there are millions of people across the world who are fluently bilingual
in both their native tongue and English.
It is high time that we learned to value the treasure that is the Welsh language - a treasure that belongs to all of us - and stopped using it
as a political football.
