CRITICAL PRACTICE IN AN AGE OF COMPLEXITY

Place: University of Arizona, USA
Dates: 22 – 23 February 2018

Abstracts: 05 Dec 2017

Context:
The complexity and change of cities and society today… Donald Trump promises investment in infrastructure, China continues to urbanize and pollute, global cities are surrounded by slums and housing is unaffordable and simultaneously a form of capital investment. How should artists, designers and social and cultural theorists respond to this?

Themes:
The issues of living in cities, towns and communities are more than just questions of the buildings we construct; the houses we make or the roads we build. The built environment is more than the buildings we construct; the houses we make or the roads we build. It reflects and informs social development, community conflict and economic opportunity, demographic disparity and more. This conference reflects this by opening its call to multiple strands and proposals.

Disciplines:
Art, cultural theory, sociology, human geography, cultural studies, architecture, urban planning and more.

Publications:
Publications are coordinated via PARADE (Publication & Research in Art, Architectures, Design and Environments). It involves AMPS, Routledge Taylor&Francis, UCL Press, Intellect Books, Libri Publishing, UCL Press, Vernon Press and more.
