The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is recruiting a Research Fellow for a one year post, acting as the Communications Coordinator for Ebola vaccine clinical trials in Sierra Leone.
The EBOVAC1 team (www.ebovac.org) is conducting clinical trials to assess the safety and immunogenicity of candidate Ebola vaccines. The EBODAC (Ebola Vaccine Deployment, Acceptance and Compliance) project is focused on developing strategies and tools to promote the acceptance of Ebola vaccines, supporting these clinical trials through communications, community engagement and new technologies.
The post holder will be responsible for implementing community engagement strategies for these clinical trials. The post holder will also be responsible for providing research, communications leadership and administrative support to Dr. Heidi Larson and the EBODAC/EBOVAC1 teams.
The post-holder should have a Postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD) in public health or a related discipline or equivalent experience. Experience of managing a team of staff, preferably in a field environment, is essential. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they have experience of delivering and evaluating communications, engagement or social mobilisation programmes in the field of public health. Excellent organisation skills are also essential to manage a busy and varied workload on a daily basis.
The post is based in Kambia, Sierra Leone. The post is available immediately and is currently funded for one year. The appointment will be made on LSHTM’s Academic Pathway Research Fellow scale, Grade 6, £38,533-£43,759 per annum inclusive, depending on qualifications and experience. The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
