Jeremy Noel-Tod tweeted that On the Abyss is about the refugee boats that cross or founder in the Med. Abyss and Each to Each are both strongly boat-oriented sequences (though that's a fairly familiar motif in Prynne, e.g. Weasels Wild Returning).
My perception is that Prynne's poems have actually been becoming "easier" for about a decade now. And very very good. He isn't one of those poets whose really important work is all done in a few years and the rest we are kind to. ...
