The Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath, UK is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) with internationally leading expertise in autonomous and intelligent systems as part of a strategic drive to strengthen our research and teaching around intelligent systems, machine learning and human-computer interaction within the Department and across the University. The postholder will be expected to extend our core strengths and to create effective collaborations in particular with colleagues in the Department’s Intelligent Systems and Human-Computer Interaction research groups.
The post holder must have a continuing commitment to maintaining the University’s high standards in teaching and learning, with the ability to educate and inspire some of the brightest students in the country. In particular, the post holder will support the launch of a new MSc in Machine Learning and Autonomous Systems, led by Computer Science and linked to a new MSc in Robotics and Autonomous Systems led by the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. Key topics include interaction between humans, robots and other forms of machine intelligence, probabilistic machine learning, and intelligent control and cognitive systems.
Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant discipline, a strong or developing track record of publications and research grant capture and outstanding potential to lead research, funding bids and teaching. The successful applicant will be expected to carry out and supervise research in line with targets set by the Department and to obtain significant research funding from external sources. She or he will also be expected to contribute to the administration, leadership and management of the Department’s activities commensurate with the level of the appointment.
In addition to a full CV, applicants must provide research and teaching statements of up to two pages each. The research statement should outline plans for research activity and grant capture over the next five years and the applicant’s fit with existing intelligent systems, HCI and robotics research in the Department of Computer Science and across the University.
