Dear all,
I am a current MPhil student in Modern British History at Trinity Hall, Cambridge and the subject of my dissertation is the theatrical works of Lady Randolph Churchill. The manuscripts of her works are located at the Churchill Archives Center, but I would greatly appreciate supplementing my research with records from the theaters where her works were performed. The first play she wrote, "His Borrowed Plumes," premiered at what was once called the Hicks Theatre in London in 1909. This theatre was later known as the Globe, and is now known as the Gielgud.
I would greatly appreciate any insight into which archives would be most likely to have archival materials from this theatre from its earliest years. Press cuttings and reviews of the play I have access to now; I am most interested in finding materials that would have never been made public by the theatre, such as ticket sales or economic records. Any insight would be greatly valued - I am newly arrived from the United States and am not very experienced with London archives at present.
Best regards,
Holly
