Yes, very sad news. Bob really was a pioneer in opening up comparative and global discourses on social policy. Has the news been posted on european lists also?

Subject: Professor Bob Deacon
Dear colleagues
With great sadness we’re writing to let you know of the death of Bob Deacon on Sunday October 1st. Many of you will have known Bob as a friend and colleague and will know of his significant contribution to the internationalisation of social policy scholarship. Bob was most recently Emeritus Professor of International Social Policy at the University of Sheffield, and Honorary Professor in Global Social Policy at the University of York. He made a huge contribution to the expansion of social policy analysis to fields of global and transnational activity, though his publications (such as Global Social Policy 1997; Global Social Policy and Governance 2007 and Global Social Policy in the Making 2013); his engagement with global organisations and actors, and his success in opening up these areas of study for students and researchers. His energy and conviction will be greatly missed.
