The UK electronic information Group (UKeiG) is launching a programme of multi-speaker events, which will enable like-minded librarians and information professionals to meet up at CILIP in London to share and discuss their knowledge and experience in a range of key areas.
Digital literacy is fundamental to the efficiency and competency of organisations and the workforce in the knowledge economy. Library and information professionals are essential in supporting, encouraging and developing the skills and competencies required for success.
This day will provide you with inspiration and practical tips on how you and your colleagues can support and advocate digital literacy in the workplace. It will explore some tools and resources that will help you assess digital competencies in yourself, your team and your wider organisation.
Who should attend?
*All librarians, IT and information professionals from any sector or discipline who are responsible for delivering information/digital literacy support and training and want to discuss current issues and developments with colleagues
*Managers who are key advocates for the digital literacy agenda in their organisations and want to raise service delivery to another level
Speakers & Themes
Speakers include: Lis Parcell, (Subject Specialist: Libraries and Digital Resources) from Jisc, Ian Hunter, (Research and Information Manager) from the law firm Shearman & Sterling LLP, Charles Inskip, (Collection Management and Preservation, Information Sources and Retrieval) from University College London and Wendy Foster, (Business Librarian) from City Business Library in London.
Through group discussions and presentations topics covered on the day will include:

*Digital literacy experiences - what we know and what we think we know
*Cross-sectoral case studies
*The impact of digital literacy on staff development
*Building good practice and developing digital literacy strategies
Jisc's Lis Parcell, in her presentation "Flexing our digital muscle: beyond information literacy" will explore some tools and resources to help assess digital capability in yourself, your team and your wider organisation. "Library and information professionals have long been recognised for expertise in information literacy, but the need for more digitally capable organisations creates new avenues for staff to develop their roles and contribute to the digital strategy of the organisation. This will be of particular interest to those working in an educational or research organisation, but will also have relevance to other library and information roles."
