though I wouldn't quite put it like that
classifying oneself as an old leftie is almost apologetic to my ear
I don't require artists to hold views akin to mine to admire them as artists
but it seems to me that his views are ignorant and wrong-headed AND there
is nothing much admirable about his poetry as poetry
