Dear MeCCSA colleague
Apologies if you have already received this through an alternative jiscmail list.
The Radio Studies Network is pleased to announce that registration is now open for 'Reaching Out: BBC Local Radio 50th Anniversary Conference'. Organised by the Leicester Media School at De Montfort University and MeCCSA Radio Studies Network, this conference is to mark the 50th Anniversary of BBC Local Radio, in the city of Leicester, where the first BBC local station began broadcasting in 1967.
This one-day event aims to celebrate the history of Local Radio but also examine the current situation and look ahead to the future. How is encouraging local BBC radio stations to work in partnership with other local news media benefitting local communities? Do initiatives such as the BBC’s Women in Radio scheme encourage more participation and engagement, and perhaps more importantly boost listenership? What impact will Ofcom’s audience consultation on the BBC’s performance have on the provision of local services?
This is a free event. Refreshments are included and it is taking place in De Montfort's Hugh Aston Building 2.07.
Speakers include:
DIVERSITY PANEL: Gloria Abramoff, Tonic Productions; Sheetal Parmar, BBC, Editor of Specialist Programmes for English Regions; Kamlesh Purohit, Deputy Managing Editor, BBC Radio Leicester; Barnie Choudhury, Professor of Professional Practice in Communication, University of Buckingham.
NEWS PANEL: John Ryan, Director 2ZY; Kay Wright, News Editor BBC Radio Leicester; Mathew Gull, University of Lincoln.
SPORTS PANEL: Jason Bourne BBC & Talk Sport and Bob Ballard, sports commentator.
Academic papers from Professor Peter Lewis, Professor Tim Wall, Aleksandar Kocic, Liam McCarthy, Josephine Coleman and Amber Hammill.
