The Chair of Geoinformation Engineering at ETH Zürich is looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate, starting at the earliest possible date.
PhD position - Gaze-Based Interaction with Urban Environments
The main objective of the project Location-Aware Mobile Eye Tracking for Tourist Assistance is the investigation of novel gaze-based interaction methods for pedestrians in urban environments, with a focus on a tourist scenario. The project envisions mobile assistance systems that trigger information services based on a user's gaze on 3D-objects in a real-world urban environment.
The ideal candidate must have an excellent degree (M.Sc., M.Eng. or equivalent) in Computer Science, Geomatics or related fields, as well as a strong research interest in human-computer interaction. Knowledge of methods in machine learning, inferential statistics, as well as strong programming skills (e.g., Java or C++) are required. Background or experience in eye tracking, computer vision, virtual environments, geographic information science, or related topics is a significant plus. The candidate must have excellent communication skills in English (oral and writing), be team-oriented and willing to work in an international environment.
