Dear Critters,
We're delighted to announce the launch of a whole set of new educational resource, to mark the forthcoming 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s visit to the UK (there was a good Guardian write-up last week).

The resources focus on the radical King of 1967, who was coming under increasing pressure from conservatives and liberals alike due to his outspoken opposition to the Vietnam war. This pack goes beyond the portrayal of King as a poetic dreamer forever standing at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963 delivering inspirational soundbites, to the King who presented a radical challenge to the racist, capitalism, militarised society of mid-1960s USA. It pushes children to make connections between then and now. There’s some quite innovative stuff in the pack on drone warfare, women and nonviolence, nuclear weapons, supply chains and civil war, protest songs, etc. Can be used across a range of subjects for a whole-school unit, individual assemblies, or one-off events to mark Martin Luther King day, Black History Month, etc. A good chunk of it is based on quite cutting-edge research by peace-minded geographers and historians. Please do circulate information on it to various peace circles. Thanks!
All lesson plans, powerpoints, music files etc are free to download. Please pass on to friends who are schoolteachers, or to the teachers of children you know.
