GeoHumanities Creative Commissions 2018 – Creating Earth Futures
The Royal Holloway Centre for the GeoHumanities is pleased to announce the launch of its commissions and creative residency programme with up to four commissions on the theme of ‘Creating Earth Futures’. This is the first year of a long-term investment in GeoHumanities themed creative commissions and residencies.
Global environmental change is widely understood to be a ‘wicked’ problem that requires interdisciplinary solutions. Whilst increasing attention is given to the role of social sciences within global environmental change scholarship, less attention has been paid to the possibilities of arts and humanities scholarship and practice. These commissions are aimed at building capacity in this field by funding collaborations between creative practitioners and scholars interested in global environmental change and the role of creative practices in earth futures. These might involve collaborations between artists and environmental scientists as well as between artists and other scholars (including human geographers) interested in global environmental change broadly understood.
Each commission is worth up to £2000 to be spent between 1/1/2018 and 31/8/2018.
The commissioning programme is open to any collaboration between creative practitioner(s) and early career academic(s). Early career is understood here in line with AHRC guidelines as within 8 years of award of their PhD. In recognition of the difficulties acknowledged in establishing career stage, any reasonable argument made for early career status will be considered.
Closing date for applications is 20/10/2017, outcomes announced by 15/11/2017.
These commissions are based in the RHUL Centre for the GeoHumanities (www.royalholloway.ac.uk/geohumanities<http://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/geohumanities>www.geohumanitiesforum.org<http://www.geohumanitiesforum.org/> ) and funded by the Leverhulme Trust and AHRC through the Creating Earth Futures research programme ( www.creativegeographies.org<http://www.creativegeographies.org/>).
