Just out of interest. Just been reading a newish on-line poetry mag. Very well done site. Very organised. Very mainstream. All competent writers even a couple biggish names. Won't give its title for personnel reasons.
There are a few exceptions but 90% of the poems are very similar - observation/anecdote/story/memory all ending with a precious thought or meaningful image to round-off. Same tone throughout, quiet but sounding important. And when the language does attempt to be a bit more dynamic you can feel the strain of trying too hard - brittle - posed.
No different to middle-class mainstream poetry from any time over the past 40 years.
Bloody depressing.
Just saying...
