The Braun Archive (http://yiddisherkunst.org/) is a collection of nearly one million images of Jewish life in Stamford Hill captured by Dudy Braun.
We have raised £2,000 from a Foundation to try make some kind of start on the cataloguing of the images. With this initial grant, our intent is to begin the process – with the initial aim to catalogue the first few hundred images. And to then also understand how much resource would be required to catalogue a larger portion of the collection in future.
We have the London Metropolitan Archives advising us, as we will be depositing a selection of the images with them.
Ideally we are looking for a self-starter based in London who can meet with the LMA archivists, to understand their cataloguing protocol – and then to spend some time with Dudy and his father Marton (who has served as Dudy’s curator to date) to advise on the image selection and elicit from them the information required for the cataloguing. They are based in Stamford Hill.
What will be important besides experience of photographic cataloguing, will be knowledge of the Jewish world, due to the subject matter.
We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible. If interested, please do email me ([log in to unmask]) with a short message about your experience and importantly your day rate.
