CALL FOR PARTICIPATION – Technology for Bonding in Human-Animal Interaction
Workshop at ACI 2017 conference at Open University, Milton Keynes, UK
Workshop date: 21.11.2017
Workshop website: http://www.turre.fi/tech4bonding
Information on ACI 2017 conference: www.aci2017.org
WHAT IS THIS WORKSHOP ABOUT?
Technology offers exciting new opportunities for supporting and
expanding human-animal interaction and bonding. What is related to these
opportunities and how to design for bonding?
We invite you to this 1-day workshop at ACI 2017 conference to explore
and discuss on the following questions as well as ideate how to enhance
and expand human-animal interaction and bonding with technology:
- What characterizes the human-animal interaction and bonding? What are
their elements?
- How might ACI enhance bonding in human-animal interaction?
- What are the potential benefits, pitfalls and impacts of technology in
this area?
- How do animals and humans perceive and experience the solutions?
- What kind of social and affective aspects and impacts are related to
technological solutions from animal’s and human’s viewpoints?
This workshop explores issues related to use and influence of technology
in human-animal interaction and bonding, and how to facilitate this
interaction and bonding at its best. We explore the elements and
characteristics of human-animal interaction and bonding, and how
technology is connected to emotions and bonding between the human and
the animal. We are particularly interested in the animal’s experiences,
emotions, and welfare.
We focus in this workshop on dogs as an example species, as there exists
prior scientific knowledge on the interaction and bonding between humans
and dogs. We aim to pave way for further investigations and research
with other domestic animals, such as cats, horses, and rabbits.
We invite academics from related fields of science and and practitioners
with background in animal behavior, emotions, technology development or
other relevant fields to contribute to this interdisciplinary 1-day
workshop with their expertise and vision. Within the workshop we aim to
facilitate active and critical discussion on the topic and future
vision, work collaboratively to create a framework for elements and
characteristics of human-dog interaction and bonding, and create and
evaluate ideas and low-fidelity concept prototypes with a lean design
thinking approach. Invited talks will give background and viewpoints to
support the workshop activities. The results of the workshop will be
disseminated on the workshop site for a wider public and as an academic
publication.
