APOLOGIES FOR CROSS POSTING
Dear all
Are you an expert in digital curation?
An academic institution in Kent is recruiting a temporary Digital Curator for four months initially, starting in September.
The Digital Curator will take responsibility for ensuring that the library’s collections can be found and accessed through the resource discovery systems, curating metadata as well as the digital and physical resources themselves so that this content can be effectively and efficiently harvested by external services to reach new audiences.
This job will focus particularly on the rare and distinctive collections of national importance within the library holdings, including research data. The Digital Curator will optimise navigability, accessibility and discoverability of materials that support learning and teaching and research activities, ensure the collections can be discovered and that connections can be made between collections and the experts who can support effective use and exploitation of these collections. In the rapidly changing digital data landscape, this job will help ensure the library services can contribute to, exploit and realise benefits from the emerging linked data and open data movements and lead and support a team of library assistants to maximise opportunities presented by these changes.
This job would suit someone with a professional qualification in archives or library management (or equivalent practical experience), while a further qualification in the conservation of digital and hard copy formats (or equivalent experience) would be highly desirable. To succeed in this job, you will be able to demonstrate a proven track record in the implementation of strategic plans for resource description and access, practical experience of a range of metadata standards and schema and experience and understanding of issues relating to the curation of rare and distinctive library collections.
This job is an excellent opportunity to work with a range of unique collections within a successful and well respected academic institution. The post will be temporary for four months, but a longer-term position may become available.
Job salary: c. £33,000 - £38,000
