Dear colleagues,
See below. There has also been some list discussion about the requirements for applying for this post, and whether they potentially exclude black archivists. I'm happy to share this - let me know if it would interest people on this more international list.
All the best,
Pat

Subject: New Archivist vacancy at Black Cultural Archives
Black Cultural Archives is the UK’s only national repository of Black history and culture. Our mission is to identify, catalogue, preserve and promote the heritage of people of African and Caribbean descent in this country. We require an Archivist to manage the collections service in a manner consistent with our mission. The current post holder is moving-on after 5 successful years, having established the archive in its new home in Brixton.
We are seeking an Archivist as part of the Management Team. The role includes developing the strategic vision for collections and improving awareness and accessibility of our archive.
You will help to provide the full range of archive and records management services to researchers, the general public and to members of staff. You will assist in the care and management of the archives, liaising with donors and potential donors, as well as handling enquiries and participating in the work of the wider organisation. A key part of your role will include carrying-out research and scoping of our collections to inform our exhibitions and public programmes.
You will have a recognised qualification in archives with proven experience of working in an archive and have experience of records management and cataloguing to ISAD(G) standard. Ideally, you will have a passion for research.
You should be flexible, proactive and have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate a sound problem solving approach to your work.
