Justin,

Most local highway authorities with have a construction specification guide that sets out everything from kerb heights to fees and everything you need to know about highways.

Here's an example: https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/content/dam/sheffield/docs/roads-and-pavements/information-sheets/Highway%20Construction%20Specification.pdf

Personally, I think it’s a bit disingenuous to ask to specify it as any adopted road will need to be built to the local authority specification for it to be adopted. Most "designers" know where to look this sort of information up.

My understanding is 60mm is the lowest to be detectable, although that is disputed by some. Normally 100 - 120mm (in some cases up to 150mm) which allows for some resurfacing . Higher kerbs are needed for some buses there is normally a local agreement on the height for the raised kerbs in place to assist bus companies (140 - 160mm).

Subject: specified kerb height

Hi

Can anyone point me in the direction of a government document which specifies the height of kerbs for roads?

I am aware of the recent call for a moratorium on new schemes from the report from the Women and Equalities committee but as nothing has actually been banned I am trying to get a scheme to adopt 'standard height kerbs' - they are asking what is a standard height? They had been proposing only 60mm height in some of the scheme and none in the rest but it would help if I could point to something official but can only find an 'off hand' reference in a guide to heights of traffic humps!

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Justin Ryan
