We are looking for a statistician with a mathematical background who has the ambition to pursue a PhD in Biostatistics and develop new biostatistical methods for application in cancer research.
The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) in Amsterdam is a Comprehensive Cancer Center combining a hospital and research laboratories in a single independent organization. The Biostatistics Group (Dr. Michael Hauptmann) within the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics concentrates on methodological and statistical research. The group also provides statistical expertise to clinicians and other investigators on diverse topics from all areas of biomedical cancer research.
Funded by the Dutch Cancer Society, the candidate will develop statistical methods for the assessment of cancer risks from therapeutic radiation exposure incorporating the spatial distribution of radiation dose in the target organ. The project involves simulation studies and application of methods to case-control data on meningioma among childhood cancer survivors and breast cancer among Hodgkin lymphoma survivors. Finally, the utility of the dose distribution for risk prediction will be assessed. The project team includes the PhD student, a programmer and a radiologic technologist, and is a collaboration with several international institutions.
The position requires:
- A Master degree in (bio)statistics, mathematics, or physics, or equivalent qualifications;
- Formal training in mathematical statistics;
- Some experience with the statistical analysis of epidemiologic studies;
- Knowledge of basic approaches used in clinical research and epidemiology;
- Programming skills in software such as SAS, STATA or R;
- Strong command of the English language;
- Start date on or before January 1, 2018.
You will be employed for a period of 4 years. The gross salary per month will be from EUR 2567 to EUR 3162 according to the standard PhD scales and depends on previous experience. The terms of employment will be in accordance with the CAO Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals).
