Hi Sarah,
I think it potentially/probably violates copyright, and yes, it will be faster, as will the Russian site that provides all full text articles free, no password, that I've been trying to encourage the people who ask me about it not to use to be honest. The eventual end result I see of this is the de-employment of all library assistants (who at least in our library are the people who get the articles for people), and eventually I suspect the end of peer reviewed journals, because yes, there are people employed to do jobs like layout, printing etc that need paying, and if people can get something for free, they won't pay, and won't think of those consquences.
I don't see an opportunity in libraries for this, and it does concern me.
Best,
Genny

Subject: Twitter hashtag
Hello,
I’m not sure how many of you are on Twitter but i’ve just found the following hashtag and i thought it might be something we as librarians want to discuss. It’s #ICanHazPDF and basically people seem to be attaching it to tweets asking other people to give them a full text article they’re requesting. People have been using it on twitter for a little while now, and some people have been discussing it at a current conference @iflawlic. I thought it might be interesting to bring it to a wider audience to see what everyone thinks about it. People on Twitter are saying that it’s better than asking a librarian for a full text article as this method is much faster. It’s an interesting concept to use Twitter this way, what do you think?
Thanks,
Sarah
